NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNERS

This is the last post for this year and I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all the students for their unwavering dedication and the parents for their continued support.

The students learned a lot and had fun in the process. BUT, there is more in store for the coming year. Meanwhile,

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Last week for 2014! This is the week to put it all together and make great stories and add a sprinkle of sparkles to our work.

Grade 5/6 brain stormed ideas for a part-time work wanted ad. They compiled a number of jobs and discussed what information should appear in the newspapers.

Grade 3/4 did not have French today. They were at the school's annual Food Bank field trip.

Grade 7/8 worked at polishing their stories which they will read to the JK/SK later this week. They have a written segment, illustrations and acting parts. I am certain that the little ones will enjoy it.

Grade 1/2  used all of the Holiday vocabulary to make sentences. They used starters such as
'J'ai...un cadeau or Je vais...au restaurant or Je mets...des décorations sur l'arbre de Noël.'

JK/SK were in great form this morning. They sang, worked at the calendar and the weather and then drew a dot to dot Sapin de Noël.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Cette semaine, tout est pour le concert!

Grade 7/8 presented their projects in class. The topic was 'Les animaux bizarres'. They were outstanding! Their work will be on display in the classroom and in the hall.

Grade 3/4 have started a play about Le Père Noel et tous les jouets. These students are taking their roles seriously and their reading ability has improved tenfold. Comprehension activities will follow this week. Who knows, if a few parents want to sit through their class one day, feel free to come.

Grade 5/6 are practicing expressing what they like to do, or what they dislike too! This unit is about professions and finding out what their special interests are.

Grade 1/2 are starting to learn holiday vocabulary and after reading 'Casse-Noisette', they worked on a word search. They are singing their heart out with Le petit soldat...

JK/SK had a short practice for their concert song and completed a Christmas collage of a star, which will go home after the concert. Trust me when I say IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

 NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Well, let me start by saying that this week is represented by researchers, thinkers and knowledgeable students.

Grade 5/6 found a treasure trove of verbs in the unit, and we are only starting Les carrières.

Grade 3/4 have jumped in with both feet into Les roches et minéraux. They are taking turns at showing and telling the class about their findings. They are building a vocabulary bank and realizing that the terminology is similar to French, therefore, they are not afraid to research things in French...THEY CAN READ IT!

Grade 7/8 are taking this week to research their animals and you could hear a pin drop, they are so absorbed they are ignoring the recess bell. It is promising!

Grade 1/2 are completing a few written excercises about buildings and are illustrating parts of their home. Good Work Everyone!!!

JK/SK are looking for a tree that wanted to grow up so fast...ending up as a Christmas tree in a grand house. Later, le bonhomme de pain d'épices will be paying a visit. Oh, and of course, they are rehearsing for the concert.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Le premier décembre! On a eu une assemblée ce matin.....
There was an assembly this morning so the Grade 5/6 and 3/4 did not have French.

Grade 7/8 have received their rubric for La Tâche finale...their unit project. They will be working on their presentation the rest of the week. Projects are due Tuesday, December 9.
They are enthusiastic about their research on an unusual animal.

Grade 1/2 had a great session today. They had to listen to sentences read to them, read them for themselves, then, find the correspondent pictures. Well done, everyone!

JK/SK are preparing for the concert next week. They had great ideas for little props for their song. Something like: 1 blanket, one pair of blue slipper and a big star.  We'll see...
