NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Bonjour à tous!

It is already the last week of April and the students are hard at work with different projects and new units. The main theme is Nature and Observation.

Grade 5/6 students started the unit Les poissons tropicaux. They are excited about working with under-water life and the prospect of making their own aquarium. The learning components are prepositions and the verb 'voir' (to see).
On another note, the PYP exhibition will require a few hours a week from now till May 20.

Grade 3/4 are once again turning into investigators. They actually are able to name the learner profiles in French and telling which one is the most telling for them. Everyone took turn reading from the unit text book and WOOOOW! Their reading fluency and pronunciation is off the chart! 
There will be a vast vocabulary bank which the students will build themselves and use during their 3D presentations. They will be using their 6 senses quite a bit for this unit.

Grade 1/2 created their vocabulary for all things Spring. Then, they were divided into 3 teams to come up with a short skit to include their favourite Spring ideas.
They are encouraged to use starters such as: j'aime..., je vois..., je fais.

Grade 7/8 are re-visiting the pronoun EN. It is a difficult and tricky concept that needs a lot of practice. Next, the students will tackle their own legend using passé composé with être.

PK/JK/SK are working on farm animals and new life. They will be completing a booklet with the names and pictures of farm dwellers. The vocabulary used includes: cochon, vache, cheval, poule, canard, mouton, chêvre, coq...grange, étable, étang, écurie, poulailler, porcherie.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER.

Bonjour à tous! C'est le mois d'avril, il fait soleil et il y a des averses de pluie aussi. Cette semaine, nous avons la journée de la Terre. Les étudiants parleront de conservation, gestion et compostage.

Grade 5/6 are editing and finalizing their real estate advertisement. They excell at communicating the best features for their property. Presentations are Tuesday & Wednesday. There is an Earth Day activity planned for the rest of the week.

Grade 3/4 are dancing their way to French class. They are exciting about their music and the dance moves they created. They are using the vocabulary related to different steps and will be giving intructions to the rest of the class.

Grade 7/8 are at DYFA on Monday (today). The rest of the week, they will be working on legends. Tuesday, they will give us their interpretation of a legend where the pictures and the vocabulary is given to them. THIS IS DUE TUESDAY! They had class time last week to work on this at lenght. 
Next, the students will create their own legend. This is an on-going project.

Grade 1/2 are away today (DYFA, Monday). This week, they will create a list of words for the Earth Day celebration.

PK/JK/SK will be doing activities for Earth Day, complete the collage for 'le nid d'oiseau' and will be starting La Ferme de Mathieu booklet.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

There is a lot of activity going on this week.

Grade 5/6 worked on answering comprehension questions on a short text. As a rule, everyone understands the text. The real  work was to compose answers that were complete and correct: start with 'il y a' or C'est...and so on.
Tuesday and Friday will be our designated days to work on the French components of their PYP Exhibition. 

Grade 3/4 were away on their field trip to the Welliington Museum. They will have so muck to tell for the rest of the week. They will be giving information in French in their notebook.

Grade 7/8 were read to this morning. This unit is about retelling legends and how appropriate for the students to use the verbs requiring the auxilliary Etre and new vocabulary.

Grade 1/2 had a friendly competition with the quiz. Well done everyone! The rest of the week, they will have work on written activities.

PS/JK/SK  are having a good time with new activities on Springtime. Je marche, je cours, je vole, je nage, je  plonge et je grimpe. The rest of the week will be a montage and collage of a 
arbre, nid,  oeuf, oiseau et coquille.

Bonjour à tous!

Although last week and the coming week are short ones, the students are enthusiastic and working dilligently.

Grade 5/6 discussed their up and coming Exhibition. They agreed to dedicate one to two days a week to incorporate French in their presentations. Each member of the groups will have a small part to research and present in French.
The rest of the time, they worked on a booklet of houses and the different lifestyle such as country living and city dwelling.

Grade 3/4 started with the following question: did the pioneers have a calender? What did they use? etc...After this, they were matching sentences to pictures. They are incredible students!

Grade 7/8 began a unit on legends. This unit is about new vocabulary and more importantly the use of passé composé with the verb être.
Grade 1/2 students are working with être. Today, they had flashcards that needed a match. They found  their matches, then produced a short sentences. Great work!

PRE K/JK/SK identified their rain coats by their colours and completed the following sentence: Le lapin de Pâques m'a donné...
The rest of the week is work  for birds and nesting.
