NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 The students took up their cross-word puzzle on Le Moyen-Âge. Congratulations on the students who actually did their homework and completed the activity (this was worth a few house points), and it was not all that difficult if you took the time to do it.
They also started the unit on numbers written in words. After writing them, we had a round of spelling bee.

Grade 7 Their irregular adjectives homework was corrected and they had the period to work on their project: les microbes. They have to do a Venn diagram and 15 sentences using the unit vocabulary and verbs vouloir, devoir, pouvoir.
This is due on Wednesday December 2.

Grade 8 Students did a quick review of passé composé with Être and the use of the pronoun ON. Following their rubric, they will be doing a poster to advertise their movie and a paragraph for the radio/T.V. announcement.

Grade 5/6 did their presentations today and what a great group of students! They had gathered facts on their respective animals and made pertinent comments in their comparisons with humans. Well done everyone!

Grade 1/2 practice, practice and some more practice! They are doing this all on their own volition! They set up their groups, discussed the little props needed and basically choreographed the whole thing. It will be a great surprise.

JK/SK Started to sing their Christmas song and of course requested more songs. The ever popular bonhomme and its instruments made an appearance.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 The students took up last week's lesson on adverbs of quantity. After completing 2 sets of illustrations and the appropriate words written down, they worked on a cross words with some translation from English to French. Wow! They are such hard little workers.

Grade 7 The students reviewed the rubric for their projects. They should have the name of  2 microbes and a few pertinent facts to use in a Venn diagram. Due date for the project is Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The rest of the period was used to re-arrange in correct sequence sentences with irregular adjectives (placed before the noun). Please finish this for homework as well.

Grade 8 reviewed their rubric for their project. They also watched a cou;ple of scenes from Notre Dame de Paris, based on the novel from Victor Hugo. At lunch time, I went back to talk about what they had seen and they will be researching the novel and report their findings on Wednesday.

Grade 1/2 The Christmas concert rehearsal is in full swing. The students all have their sheets with their own section of the poem highlighted. They also have a few lines of a song to sing with the JK/SK and everyone is partnered up between the 4 grades. 

JK/SK After the routine work of weather and calendar, they listened to a story: Martine à la cuisine. The grade 1/2 joined in to learn the Christmas song. They did sound pretty good for a first rehearsal.

lNEWS FROM FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 The students were very keen when they learned that they would do the French part for the Christmas concert. They helped putting a poem and according to them, it had to rhyme! More to come in the coming weeks.

JK/SK had a treat today and watched Passe-Partout on T.V./DVD. The theme was le jardin, les poissons...They finished with songs and games.

Grade 3/4 The students completed their shield/bouclier. They also learned prepositions: assez, beaucoup, trop, peu. It will be on a continuing basis for the coming week.

Grade 7 The students completed 2 activities using the verbs vouloir, pouvoir and devoir. Once they grasped the concept and really started to read for comprehension, it was quite easy.

Grade 8 read an article on the actress playing Ann in the movie King Kong. Following that they organized random sentences about the movie. They also
listened to a reading about special effects and the art of movie make-up.
homework: complete the activity sheet for Monday.

Grade 5/6 The students had the period to work on their booklet/project on animals and humans in society. Monday will be the final edit and the pictures and Wednesday is presentation.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 Today was International Mindedness Day and the students asked how to name and talk about La religion Juive.  They were especially iinterested in Channukah/Hannukah and the minorah. A few remembered me bringing one at school and lighting it with them. We will resume Le Moyen Âge on Friday.

Grade 7 took up the verb devoir without difficulty. They have read and researched their vocabulary and recorded them in their notebook. Homework for Friday is to fill in the blanks of the story with the appropriate verb, vouloir, devoir or pouvoir. 

Grade 8 completed an activity on the reading selection Les Grands Monstres. They did this really quickly so we had a good discussion about what scares us in movies and why. This is in preparation for their advertising project where they will have to take into consideration the message and the target audience of a film of their choice. More to come soon.
Homework: identify the character (montre) for each movie description.

Grade 5/6 The students put the final touches to the presentation on Islam. I was impressed by how much they had practiced and their pronunciation. We had a short discussion about tolerance and acceptance. These students are very open-minded.
They jumped started their project on social animals and how they compare with humans. Friday will be the writing of the rough copy and editing. Until Friday, they have to research information for their selected animal.

Grade JK/SK/1/2 were combined this afternoon because of the presentations. So it was a mix and match of skills and competition. They also requested to have another guided meditation (I guess the grade 1/2 put them up to this one). It was great to have all of them together as a group.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 LE MOYEN ÂGE! The students learned new vocabulary and then applied it to the word search. Homework is to complete p.14 by matching 2 syllables to form new words. Most students were almost done with this page.

Grade 7 The students read about virus and  their effects. The had a text to read and jot note the vocabulary. If not completed, this is homework.

Grade 8 We had to take up and correct last week homework and clarify a few concepts. Overall, they did well and their verb tenses are getting quite accurate.

Grade 1/2 We visited this weeks BIG subject Hindouism for Wednesday International Mindedness. We looked at words that were similar in English and French and tried a guided meditation. The students were amazing and really made the connection with being calm and strong.

JK/SK After our routine work, the students talked about and coloured their totems for the up coming presentation on Wednesday. Great work today.

News from the French Corner

Grade 3/4 This morning the students brainstormed vocabulary related to Le Moyen Âge. Thank you Adelle for writing all the words on the whiteboard for the students to copy and translate.

Grade 7 worked on the unit Les bons et les méchants and are quite well versed with the vocabulary already. Scientists in our midst.

Grade 8 are finishing their activity sheets on verbs with prepositions such as à and de. This is homework, please finish these for next Monday.

Grade 5/6 In view of next week's International Mindedness and the theme of religions of the world, the students are taking Islam as their subject. So, they copied the islamic version of the prayer Our Father, Notre père. They also found that there were similarities in these prayers.

Grade 1/2 The students aree working on Tour B Les Jouets. They are already quite knowledgeable and they were trying to make sentences. Good Work Everyone.

JK/SK Most of the period was taken with migration and animals (and what they eat). This will tie in with totem poles and the theme of Native Spirits for International Mindedness.

NEWS FROM THE  FRENCH CORNER

Today, we had a returning students, Jasmine Weiler, who elected to shadow her former French teacher. And what a great day it was. She was very helpful and the students really liked having her to help around the classroom.


Grade 3/4 had their last activity on clothing. They are very willing to deswcribe what they wear and are now able to conjugate the verb porter in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person singular. Well Done!

Grade 7 Karlynn presented her project and did a great job of it. Following this, they acted as the audience for the grade 8 presentation. We started to talk about the vocabulary for virus.

Grade 8 presented their invitation card, identity card, an excellent police report and their skit as a video. WOW! Well done.

Grade 1/2 finnished their word search from Monday, vocabulary and when the grade 2 were done, they read French books. Something I would like to do on a more regular basis. This week's reader aloud was Maddy. Bravo!

JK/SK worked on the calendar some more, a round of games (they were tired), and finally they talked about their favorite fruit.

Penseurs et confiance

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 We had assembly this morning so, for the 10 minutes we had, we discussed penseurs (Thinkers). This was todays assembly's topic. We talked about the famous statue/sculture LE PENSEUR de Rodin.

Grade 7 presented their projects of a promotion of a soundtrack. They had very original ideas. We still have to hear from 2 students: Alex (the actual soundtract) and Karlynn (who was absent today).

Grade 8 listened to their peers' presentations. Then they put the final touch to their own presentation of a soirée-mystère. They have worked very hard and demonstrated a lot of creativity.

Grade 5/6 have continued working on the verbs illustrating activities to match with adjectives. They also re-worked their sentences in the negative. More work to follow on this one.

Grade 1/2 started  a unit on toys and will be adding colours as adjectives. They also completed a word search with a mystery word. Well Done!

JK/SK The students started a unit on harvest: fruit and veggetables. They have some pretty definite ideas as to what goes into their fruit salad!
