NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 The routine is well established, and students are reviewing calendar, colours, weather, and so much more. Classroom objects are now on the menu, and next week, students will identify them in writing. Grade 1s are paired with grade 2s to ease the reading transition of these frequently used words.

Grade 7 and 8 All students were introduced  to IB terminology, such as Global Contexts, Key Concepts and Related Concepts, and how it relates to the units.
They paired up to construct their Statement of Inquiry (S.O.I. for short). I was amazed to see how they were engaged and sharing ideas, and more than a few great S.O.I. ideas.

Grade 5/6 Today, students took turn reading about Natalie au Québec. The class took up the vocabulary from the text, and noted them in their notebook.
Other than listening to something in French at home, there is no homework at this point.

C'est déjà commencé! La rentrée!

Grade 1/2 Today, students received their material, and spent some time decorating their duo-tang with French inspired drawings.

***During the summer, Mr. Playford sent/emailed parents whose child is taking the Reach Ahead French programme. Please sign the form and return it so that  I can keep and file away for the Ministry via transcripts and OSRs. If you need another copy, please let me know and I will send one with your child.

Grade 5/6 Today was all about going through books, binders, notebooks/reflection, and adding specific agreements to what was already on the board as essential class agreements. Students wrote in their notebooks what they wish to accomplish by the end of this year, and discussed how this could be achieved.
Students will also keep a log (in their notebooks) of their French listening activities. It was agreed to start with 20 minutes a week of listening a variety of radio, T.V., films and videos, audiobooks...Maybe, this could turn into a family activity!

Grade 3/4 What a fabulous class we had! After establishing  the routine, and identifying the books/notebooks etc., we realized that the IB board did not have the learner profiles up yet. So, this very resourceful group started making the signs for 'le profile de l'apprenant' EN FRANÇAIS! You will have to ask them!

JK/SK Today's class was a bit about everything.  A bit of weather, say who you are, singing the days of the week, counting, colours, and a lot of actions just to see where they're at. More structure for Thursday.

BONJOUR ET BIENVENUE À LA RENTRÉE DES CLASSES 2017-18

I know that the summer holidays is coming to an end, and I have been hard at work to prepare the programmes for the students.
Oh, and yes, I manage to find time to visit family in Montréal for a weekend in July. It was really lovely with lots of good food, a little shopping, and speaking FRENCH to my heart's content.
Let's see what is needed for the coming year:

  • a positive attitude
  • being brave and speaking French whenever you can (mistakes are allowed and welcomed).
  • 1-one inch binder to hold all your French material and possessions 😁 Students will decorate their binder during the first week. JK/SK WILL NOT NEED A BINDER, AND SOME OF WORK WILL EITHER BE SENT HOME OR, FILED IN THEIR IB BINDERS.
  • For information on assignments and homework, please visit this blog regularly. I am teaching st TMA on days 2,4,6. of the 6 day schedule.
  • Students may earn house points if they can tell me what the secret code is...I try to change it regularly.
  • Parents, please do not hesitate to contact me at:
  • Jvilleneuve@themaplesschool.com or jvilleneuve@stjudesacademy.com
That is all for now, enjoy the rest of the summer break, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 5th.
