NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Welcome back for the third and last term.

Grade 1/2 brainstormed vocabulary for Easter, and the class Easter Hunt on Wednesday. They have recorded their words, and learned how to follow directions. Thursday, they will create a hunt, complete with locations and instructions.

Grade 7/8 both groups worked on passé composé with the verb 'être'. Students who did not complete today's activity should consider this their homework.
That is to say: minimum 5 complete sentences.
A REMINDER: Grade 9 French: your summative is due on Wednesday!
3 journal entries (about 5 sentences each). Don't forget to put dates too.

Grade 5/6 Students worked on 2 basic verbs: avoir and être, as well as prepositions.

Grade 3/4 Students have begun a new unit about fire prevention and evacuation plans. They took turns to read aloud, and brainstorm the new vocabulary.

JK/SK This week's focus is about an Easter Hunt. How to tell where things are, and how to get there.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 students had fun working with the valises. VALISES!!! yes, they look like luggage, and have cards with letters to place and form words. There is one with math questions too!

Grade 7/8 French Presentations were done today. There were lovely art pieces, and students produced a description following a model. They reflected on their pronunciation, and on how to improve. There is an app (free) they can put their French text to speech, and practice.
Grade 9 French students worked on their 3 journal draft entries. Presentations are due March 26 when we return. See the previous post if you need clarifications. You also have the rubric.

Grade 5/6 After working so hard on their last summative, students deserved to have a little work with technology. Meaning: they entered their texts in a text to speech app, and played back (practiced) their work.
Also, it was discussed and agreed that they would log 2 sessions of 20 minutes each of listening/viewing French material. TV5.ORG is a good place to start. They have short videos...look  for 'Jeunesse' and word games too.

Grade 3/4 students were celebrating St Patrick with lots of green. They talked about modes of transportation and where to go on vacation. They ended up drawing and colouring 'un pont, une rivière, un arc en ciel, un lutin et un pot d'or'.

JK/SK To round up the week with stories and fables, today was about 'Le lièvre et la tortue.' It was a story where students had to do certain actions when they heard key words. Noisy and fun! This was followed by a related coloring activity.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
***DURING MARCH BREAK, MAKE SURE TO LOG 4 LISTENING SEGMENTS OF 20 MINUTES EACH...IN FRENCH!!!***

Grade 1/2 The class watched a virtual class on how to describe a person. They also followed the model, and began describing their classmate.

Grade 9 French* Students played a Kahoot game about futur simple. This is a simple way to keep this grammar concept fresh on their mind. Students may self-assess their knowledge, and their answers are recorded with the stats the game offers.
HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS (EACH STUDENT HAS A RUBRIC ALSO) FOR THE SUMMATIVE DUE MARCH 27.
1. Pick an historical figure from the past. As discussed, this person must be deceased.
2. You will have to write 3 travel journal entries (5 sentences each) describing when your encounter occurs (year and date), where you are (can be another country). Use your 5 senses, it helps for the description.
3. During your talk with this famous person, what did you say, what did he/she say?
4. Use all appropriate verb tenses, vocabulary, and check your spelling.

Grade 7/8 French* Students are almost ready for presentations which will take place THURSDAY, March 8th.

Grade 5/6 After a fantastic presentation session last Friday, students deserved a couple of rounds of Kahoot games. They were very engaged and played well. Their answers and feedback are returned to the teacher as statistics, and are good formative activities.

Grade 3/4  Students presented their findings about a flight event which they researched. They played their journalists roles, were able to give dates (years have 4 digit numbers), and reflected on how they learned so much by listening to everyone's work.
They also recorded their oral presentation, and they played them back to hear how they sound.

JK/SK The class watched 'Le Petit Chaperon Rouge' as theatre  play. There were songs that they already knew, and the class ended with another tale of a wolf and 3 little pigs. Very busy today.
